【禅：zen】
精神を統一して真理を追究するという意味のサンスクリット語を音訳した｢禅那｣（ぜんな）の略で、坐禅修行をする禅宗をさす言葉が「ZEN（禅）」です。 禅について書かれた文献はたくさんありますが、簡単に説明すると、「自分自身の存在の真実を探す」こととなります。
The word ‘ZEN’ is actually short for ‘Zen-na,’ which comes from a word in Sanskrit. The original meaning is something like ‘unifying your mind to find the truth.’ So, ZEN is a school of Buddhism that practices ‘zazen’ (sitting meditation). While there’s a lot written about Zen, a simple way to put it is: it’s about ‘searching for the truth of who you really are’.
【家禅：iezen】
家禅とは、私の書家としての活動名です。「家」は私たちが生きていくうえで、わたしたちを囲み、風雨から守り自然と一定の距離をつくって過ごしやすくするものです。これは家屋のような物理的なものから、自分たちの家族のように最も近くで私をかこむものです。
‘Iezen’ is the name I use for my calligraphy work. The first part, ‘Ie’ (家), means ‘house’ or ‘home.’ To me, a ‘home’ is what surrounds us, protects us from the wind and rain, and gives us a comfortable space to live by creating a bit of distance from the wildness of nature. This can be a physical house, but it also means the people who are closest to me, like my family, who surround me.
人の最小単位は２人。１人だと言葉も出ない、笑えない、楽しめない。その最小単位となってからようやく人は１人前になるのでしょう。そしてそこから広がり、３人、４人、家を越え人とのつながりが社会をつくる。
The smallest unit of humanity is two people. If you’re all alone, you can’t speak, you can’t laugh, and you can’t really enjoy life. It’s only when we become part of this pair that we can be considered a ‘whole’ person. From there, our connections expand to three people, four, and beyond our homes, creating a society.
家禅は、人そのものを表す言葉としての造語です。
